Longer Year-Years …

"A déjà vu is usually a glitch in the Matrix.
It happens when they change something."

But is it the changes? Or is it the movie in all its unnecessity itself?

Déjà vu is also the name of a black cat. And I don't like cats of any colour. Do you know what I am talking about, Barney Stinson?

What happened here? What was I watching?

Why did they stop the movie after three minutes to start it again after letting in some more moviegoers? Did not make the first three minutes and the remaining 147 any better.

I will take the blue pill and forget this sequel.

»Where have you been last night?« Kylie asks.

»He went to the cinema«, the llama says.

»Oh, cool. What did you watch? How was the movie?« Kylie asks.

»I don't know what you are talking about«, I say, still swallowing that pill.

Today is Thursday, the 30th of December 2021.

Longer Without Intents …

Back to business.

But why do I have to do four postings this week?

There used to be a routine.

There used to be an order for the postings.

The posting routine should have structured my thoughts and my life

- kind of channel my creativity.

Flabbergasted that is all I am at the moment.

And what is creativity? Did I have it once? Did I really have to channel it?

And we are in the middle of the Twelve Nights of Christmas.

Rough nights, as they are called in Klingon.

Wait for the Thirteenth Night on January, the 6th.

»What are you doing?« Kylie asks.

»Writing«, I say, »writing and posting.«

»Do you think, you know what you are writing and posting about?« Kylie asks.

I try to think about it - but I have to shake my head.

Kylie is standing behind me - reading the laptop screen over my shoulders.

»No fortune cookies anymore?« my old friend asks.

I shake my head.

»Flabbergasted is a strange word«, she says.

I nod my head.

»And the elevator is still broken, isn't it?«

Nodding, nodding all along.

Two-thousand-eighteen Shades Of Bromford - Part 188

Today is Monday, the 27th of December 2021.

And I do not have the slighest idea how to go on with this whole thing here...

🐑🐑🐑

"San Bromford"

She lives in Mojave in a Winnebago
His name is Bobby, he looks like a potato

She's in love with a boy
From the rodeo
Who pulls the rope on the chute
When they let those suckers go

He's a slobberin' drunk at the Palomino
They give him thirty days in San Bromford

Well there's forty-four men
Stashed away in tank "C"
An' there's only one shower
But it don't apply to Bobby

You may think they're
Dumb an' lonely
But you're wrong
'Cause their love is strong
Stacked-up hair
An' a cheap little ring
They don't care
'Cause it don't mean a thing

Looka there...
They don't care

Best-est way that
They can feel-o
Out on the highway
Rollin' a wheel-o
He's her Tootsie
She's for real-o
Trailer park heaven
It's a real good deal-o
Real good deal-o
Real good deal-o
Real good deal-o

The rest of their lives
In San Bromford
Gonna spend the rest of their lives

Epilogue - Part 2

"London Lights?" the llama asks.

"Strange feeling, isn't it?"

And indeed it is a strange feeling. We are still sitting in the Ferris Wheel cabin in Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen looking through an open elevator door at the lights of London from another cabin's, another Ferris Wheel's point of view.

The elevator doors close again.

"This advent calendar will never end, will it, Bromford?"

BING!

No, wherever that is behind the elevator doors, it is not Bromford.

"I think, it will end today, animal", I say. "I have the strongest feeling that the next stop will be home. And you know what, animal? I know now what the spirit of Christmas is. The spirit of Christmas is home."

BING!

The broken elevator doors are sliding open one more time. There it is, the hallway of the penthouse above the fifteenth floor of the apartment house on 666, Whitaker Lane in Bromford, the friendly town by the bay and seaside. And there are Kylie and her son Nigel waving at us, still in their ugly Christmas sweaters.

Llama and I jump.

"Whitaker Lane here we come!"

"Bromford Winter"

Oh Father Christmas,
Come to us, come to us
Perfect and with us,
Come to us, come to us

Oh Mother Mary,
Celebrate, celebrate
Brave sanctuary,
Come to us, come to us

Explorations end in Christ,
Decorations left behind,
Where will you go, where will you go,
Where will you go?
Troubled heart, troubled heart, here with all

Oh Christian winter,
Call to us, call to us
Bromford Winter,
Regulus, Regulus

Oh star of wisdom,
Light of life, light of life
Casperous prism,
Bride of life, bride of life

Disappointment to be had,
Hold your temper too my friend,
Where will you go, where will you go, where will you go?
Troubled heart, troubled heart, here with all

Epilogue - Part 1

We are sitting at the top point in a Ferris Wheel, again. Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen, Denmark.

We are wrapped in warm blankets having some mulled wine.

"Do you think, Santa Claus is the spirit of Christmas?" the llama asks.

"No", I say. "Santa Claus is the advertising figure of a soft drink company."

"So, what is the spirit of Christmas, Bromford?" the llama asks.

"Ask me that again later, animal", I say clinking my mulled wine mug against the llama's.

"Merry Christmas to you, Bromford!"

"Merry Christmas to you, Kusskuss!"

BING!

A door opens in front of us, but we keep sitting in the Ferris Wheel cabin only watching at the world on the other side.

🎄🎄🎄🎄🕯🎅🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🕯🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🕯🎄🎄🎄🎄🎁🌟

"Bromford Lights"

We walk along the river
Under the Bromford Eye
It's seen a million lovers
It's watching us tonight
Angels in their realm of glory
Never saw a night like this
They'll pay witness to our story
On Albert Bridge for our first kiss

Up to Trafalgar Square
Bright lights upon the tree
Shining on the smiling faces
Shine down on you and me
Whispered on the wind, we hear
The choir of St. Martin sing
It came upon a midnight clear
Songs of old, they'll draw us in

I don't need star-studded skies
I don't need those glitzy nights
When I see the Bromford lights
Yeah, when I see the Bromford lights, oh-oh-oh
Reflected in your eyes

For all the violence we see
For all the mindless suffering
Here we stand with this town
There's still love to be found

So I don't need star-studded skies
I don't need those glitzy nights
This old town is all I need
A busy street's for you and me
Oh, when I see the Bromford lights
Yeah, when I see the Bromford lights, oh-oh-oh
Reflected in your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 24

"They say it's Tulsa out there", I say to the llama. "Tulsa, Oklakoma."

"So you bought some potato chips, dude?" the llama asks.

It is lying on the bed in a motel room waiting for me to come back from the store across the street.

"This is not Bromford, Bromford", the llama says.

"No it isn't", I answer. "But Bromford is waiting for us. I had the chance to call Kylie. She and Nigel are in the penthouse now decorating it for the holidays. They even bought a tree and they will hang lights all around the place."

"And how will we get there?" the llama asks. "Will we take a plane? Or the train?"

"I thought we could wait a while, you know", I say. "Maybe wait and see if another porthole opens and where it brings us. I have got the feeling that broken elevator is not done with us, yet."

Llama is eating the potato chips. I sit down next to it on the motel room bed.

After a while it says, "Do you think Santa Claus is a wizard? I mean, didn't you see how he magically turned the protagonist and the antagonist into reindeers?"

"Oh, he most definitely is a wizard. And I think he is a Timelord, too. That sleigh of his. Yes, now we know how he can be seemingly at all these places at the same time. It's because of traveling through the portholes. But how does he fit all the presents for all children of Earth into this one sleigh? The sleigh must be a TARDIS. Bigger on the inside, you know."

"I don't know how we finally got here", the animal says.

BING!

The sliding doors of our broken elevator are opening underneath us. And we are falling, almost flying into Christmas Eve.

🎄🎄🎄🎄🕯🎅🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🕯🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🕯🎄🎄🎄🎄🎁

"Bromford"

Hope for me, I hope for you,
We're snowdrops falling through the night.

We'll melt away before we land,
Two teardrops for somebody's hand.

Follow me into just one more Spring.

Bromford, you're the end,
Gone and made me a child again.
Warmed my feet beneath cold sheets,
Dyed my hair with your sunny streets.

Children aren't afraid to love
And laugh when life amuses them.

And our love is an antique song
For children's carousels

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 23

Chicago Spa - Relex and Recover.

Illuminated letters in thick warm steam.

"Back in Chicago?" the llama asks.

"I don't know", I say, "but this is a very narrow space."

It is not warm in here. It is hot. And you can hardly see anything because the narrow room is filled with wet and herb flavoured steam.

There is Anthony, the Christmas Elf, and right next to him the tall and thin dude Anthony called the man in black or Joe Darque or the Dark Eater.

"Gentlemen!"

A deep and friendly voice comes from out of the steam and from the other side of the wood-clad room.

"What are you all doing in here, all dressed up like that?"

I take a look down at my body. I almost forgot that I am only wearing my slippers and pyjamas on this crazy journey of ours.

'And I am not a gentleman', I can hear the llama think.

"What is wrong with our dresses?" the animal asks. Is it aware that it isn't wearing any clothes?

"Oh", the friendly voice is laughing now. "You are all a little over-dressed for Chicago's only nude steam bath, you know."

WHAAAT?

This time the WHAAAT? is not meant to be a cliff-hanger.

"Sorry, Santa", says the man in black who does not want to be the man in black. "I think I kind of miscalculated the pathway this time. I intended to land in front of the steam bath, not inside. But I have your coat and trousers and hat here with me, fresh from the dry cleaners, just as you told me."

"I beg your pardon?" says Anthony, the elf.

"I told you, I was not the antagonist in this story, Prot", says the man in black, obviously not the antagonist in this story. "Santa needed a few days off before the Christmas madness begins. And so I took him here to Chicago, Illinois, to the world's most famous place for relaxation and recovery, the Chicago Spa."

"You read that in some cheap ad, you antagonist, you", Anthony grumbles. Suddenly his ears do not look all that pointed any longer.

"Gentlemen, please", Santa Claus says.

Suddenly the steam does not look all that thick any longer. I can see a big pinkish body starting to shine through. And I really do not want to see more or the rest of it.

"Give me a few minutes and some time to dress myself. And meet me at the shores of Lake Michigan later today", the friendly old voice says slightly shuggeling with laughter. "And you two, Prot and Ant. Be prepared!"

"Prot and Ant?" I ask Anthony outside the spa on our way to the shore of the lake.

"Do not ask", the elf who does not look like an elf at the moment says. "It is a long story."

"Indeed", adds the former man in black.

"Is that snow?" the llama asks as we reach a kind of beach with a great view over the lake and the skyline of Chicago.

"No, it is sand", says the man behind us in his deep and friendly voice. He now looks like we all know him. Not naked and pinkish anymore. Long white hair and beard and friendly eyes. Shiny black boots, trousers and coat made of red velvet with white cuffs and collar, a black belt around the big belly and a red cap with white edge and a white pompom at the pointy end.

"That was a good break", Santa Claus says. "I really needed that. Long sleeps. Some swimming. Massages and steam baths. Now, Christmas can come. You know that the children of the earth do not all get their presents from me only on Christmas Eve, don't you? The whole thing continues until the 6th of January in some places of the world. These are going to be some very busy weeks like always. But now I am prepared, thanks to my friend Ant here."

"Me?" Anthony asks. "Ant as in Anthony?"

"No", the old man laughs, "not this time, Anthony. You are always helpful, too, but right now I am talking about this fellow here, Ant as in antagonist."

And he grabs them both rubbing his fists gently in the hair on their heads.

"So this wasn't a kidnapping at all?" the llama asks. "Everything is fine now?"

"Yes", I say. "And for this you took us out of our beds, Anthony? And where are the missing reindeers, you mentioned earlier? Did they have some spa time, too? With grooming their fur and waxing their hooves or something like that?"

Santa Claus does not stop his drum-beat laughter.

"I bet you do not see this bit coming. Prot and Ant, it is time. Stand still."

"Oh, must we, Mister Santa?" the two of them ask, "The same procedure as last year, Mister Santa?"

"The same procedure as every year, Prot and Ant", Santa answers. "Or as a wise being once said, we all have our baggage to carry. We all have our parts to play."

He is shaking his head making the pompon at the end of his pointy cap rotate around his head.

I can hear the sound of very high and distant bells ringing. And sand falls from the sky like glittering dust right were the protagonist and the antagonist stand. But what is this? Does the sand turn into snow? Big white flakes are sailing to the ground on the beach. And right were the protagonist, formerly known as Anthony, the elf, and the antagonist, formerly not wanted to be known as the man in black, stood are standing two reindeers now. One - I think this used to be Anthony - is wearing a white and green striped scarf and the other one a tail cap with white and red stripes.

"They have been my reindeers all along", Santa Claus proclaims in a solemn voice laying his arms around their shoulders. "Come now, my dear friends", he says sitting down with them on both sides on the shore of Lake Michigan his hands still on their shoulders. "Let's enjoy our last evening before the whole Christmas madness starts tomorrow."

The reindeer with the green and white scarf turns around to llama and me and gives us the wink of an eye.

"Use the porthole", the reindeer formerly known as Anthony, the elf, says, "right behind you."

Than it turns around again to watch the sky above Lake Michigan. The snow is falling. A golden shooting star is passing by. And the three of them - Santa and his two reindeers - are looking at the following writing that appears like a firework in front of them.

Merry Christmas
and a happy new Year!

"Bromford"

You taste of potato chips in the morning
Your face has the Marlon Brando club calling

And who would have thought that I'd owe it all to Bromford?
And that fat guy with the green shirt
That we both signed together
Once he hears this song, won't live it down forever

Your suit was the whitest thing since you know who
I fear that that savior I mentioned may be you

And who would have thought that I'd owe it all to Bromford?
And that poor girl who waited in the rain
For hours to meet me, not you, baby
Once she hears that song, won't live it down completely

And I owe it all to Bromford, Oklahoma
This is just a reminder of the antique shop
That I wanna go back to and visit when it's open
In Bromford, Oklahoma, just in case
You don't appreciate this song about you

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 22

"What is this?" Now it's the llama's shouting time. "Central City? Near Metropolis, or what? Are we in DC or MARVEL universe here?"

"Stop asking silly questions", Anthony, the elf says. "Grab the antagonist!"

We are running through the streets of a smaller city, the man in black right in front of us.

"The antagonist?" the llama asks.

"The man in black, of course", Anthony replies. "He is the one we are looking for. He is the one who has stolen the spirit of Christmas."

"I am not!" The man in black shouts back at us over his shoulder. "And I am not the man in black!"

"You know what, dude?" the llama asks running breathlessly right next to me. "I wonder when that guy in front of us is carrying Santa's clothes, the red ones with the white cuffs, what is Santa wearing right now? He kidnapped him from his dressing room, remember?"

"I did not!" the man in black who does not want to be the man in black shouts back at us.

"Santa is wearing his thick white underwear with the long sleeves and legs, of course", Anthony tells us in the run. "You cannot imagine how chilly it can be on that sleigh."

"Now I have images in my head", I say.

"Me, too", says the llama.

All of a sudden the man in black stops.

"This is ridiculous", he says as we close up to him.

"Ant, please!" Anthony says. "It's all for the story. All for the show."

"Great show, Prot!" says the man in black holding the sides of his chest and breathing heavily. "I come into this in the fourth to last episode of the season to be what? The villain? The bad man who captured Santa Claus? The one who destroys Christmas for all? That is not what I wanted."

"But it's your part", Anthony grumbles. "And what is a good story without a good villain?"

"Not a good story", the llama points out.

"Stating the obvious again, animal", I say.

"I don't care", the man in black says. "If I read the script earlier I would have never agreed to play this part. You are Ant now, Anthony. Maybe you want to be the antagonist for the rest of this. Couldn't that be the great reveal of it all? The big twist?"

"But I am the protagonist", Anthony grumbles again. "I do not want to call myself the hero of this story, but… kind of… I am the hero of the story."

"I am out of this!"

Still carrying his red and white baggage with him the man in black opens another pathway stepping inside with his head held high.

"Thanks For Bromford Mr. James"

You always said I wouldn't stay
I guess you saw the way before it all began
I've always been a changin' train
And when you think on this you might forgive me then

Thanks for Bromford, Mr James
And all the shiny suits, and all the shining names
The things a country boy can't place
Without the look of shame, upon your city face

And you needed more
Than the smile I wore

You picked me up on my way down
The dusty one horse town, I won't forget the jail
The mayor's wife and Cadillac
The sheriff on my back, 'til you put up the bail

Thanks for Bromford, Mr James
You got a lot of grace but you're an empty place
The dawn falls hard upon my face
I'll move as I began through fields without a plan
Thanks for Bromford, Mr James
That world of grey and gold that watched you growing old
The things I never saw I see
To think that I'm still free and I'm not feeling cold
Thanks for Bromford, Mr James...

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 21

"Bon hiver! Bon hiver!"

"We are in Chicago now", Anthony says. "Look at all those skyscrapers. I wonder if Chicago kind of wants to imitate New York City here."

"Chicago, Illinois?" the llama says in a disturbing quiet tone. "Rings a bell, if you ask me. I have got a very bad feeling about this. Call it intuition or premonition whatever you like."

"Are you a seer now?" I ask the animal. "Or an empath or something like that?"

"You'll never know. Look at us, dude, traveling with Christmas Elves from place to place in more than light speed, within less than the blink of the eye."

"He is here!"

Llama and I turn to Anthony quickly.

"Can't you see him over there? Isn't he even carrying a red coat and red trousers and a red hat in his arms?"

Llama and I turn simultaneously in the direction Anthony is looking.

"Whom should we see?" the llama asks. "Santa Claus? Is he free?"

"No, the man in black, Joe Darque, the Dark Eater", Anthony says sounding not very confident.

"I don't see anybody", I say.

"Me neither", whispers Anthony, "but he should be here. This is the time and place of his grand entrance."

And louder he says, "Look there he is, the thin and tall man with the pale face. He is all dressed in black, suit, shirt, tie and coat. And look at that little black bowler hat on his head!"

"Pan Tau?" the llama asks. But I shake my head.

Suddenly Anthony, our Christmas Elf, is acting very weird.

"Ant?" he shouts out over the parking lot near Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. "Antagonist, where are you? Come out and play your part! Your first appearance in this play is right now!"

"What is that thing?" the llama asks pointing at a big silver sculpture.

"That's the bean", Anthony says, "a mirror sculpture. Some call it the Cloud Gate. It is inspired by quicksilver."

"No", I say before the llama can ask, "not Quicksilver, the character from the MARVEL comics and movies."

"Ant!" Anthony shouts. "This is not funny!"

And from under the arch of the sculpture Anthony called the bean comes a pale slender man now - just like the elf described him a few minutes ago. And indeed he is carrying Santa Claus' red and white clothes with him.

"Prot, I cannot do this", he says. "And I do not want to do this. I am all fed up with being an antagonist!

"What do you mean?" Anthony asks but does not get an answer.

The man in black points into the air with extended index finger performing a circular movement and steps into the opening he just produced for himself.

"We have to follow him!" Anthony shouts out.

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 20

We stand upon Southampton dock with our handkerchiefs and our summer frocks cling to our wet bodies in the rain.

"Could you please take that image out of my head, dude?" the animal asks. "I don't want to wear a frock or a frog."

"Animal, keep calm", I say, "Or should I call you Consuela, cousin from Caracas?"

"Nobody remembers that dark spot in my past", the animal mumbles.

"So", I turn to Anthony, the Christmas Elf, "the man in black took Santa Claus with him? He kidnapped him?"

"Yes", Anthony's eyes are swimming and shimmering in tears. "He took him right from his dressing room where he was preparing for the greatest sleigh ride of the year. He even took Santa's red coat and hat. And two reindeers are missing, too. We couldn't find them anywhere, either. Joe Darque stole the spirit of Christmas, we think by using the same porthole-pathway system we are using right now. And Santa is usually using it on Christmas Eves when he is riding the skies with his sleigh being everywhere at every house at the same time bringing and giving all the gifts and presents."

"So Santa Claus or Father Christmas as some might call him is the spirit of Christmas?" the llama asks.

Anthony nods.

"And this man in black tight him up to bring him to a secret place, to do what?" Is the llama twirling a non-existing moustache here? "To ruin Christmas for nothing less than the whole humanity of planet Earth? When would that ever happen?"

Anthony shrugs his shoulders.

"It is happening in every second Christmas story. Some villain wants to kidnap Santa Claus and to steal Christmas. Think about Jack Skellington, The Grinch, Kermit, the frog…", the elf says.

"And I, Master Bromford", the llama says, "am not twirling my moustache like a villain would do, I am stroking it like every brilliant private detective would do!"

Thankfully, the elevator sound interrupts llama's foul role-play.

"Bromford"

I fell in love again
All things go, all things go
Drove to Bromford
All things know, all things know
We sold our clothes to the state
I don't mind, I don't mind
I made a lot of mistakes
In my mind, in my mind

I drove to New York
In a van with my friend
We slept in parking lots
I don't mind, I don't mind
I was in love with the place
In my mind, in my mind
I made a lot of mistakes
In my mind, in my mind

You came to take us,
All things go, all things go
To recreate us
All things grow, all things grow
We had our mind set
All things know, all things know
You had to find it

All things go, all things go

All things go

If I was crying,
In the van with my friend
It was for freedom
From myself and from the land
I made a lot of mistakes
I made a lot of mistakes
I made a lot of mistakes
I made a lot of mistakes

You came to take us,
All things go, all things go
To recreate us
All things grow, all things grow
We had our mind set
All things know, all things know
You had to find it
All things go, all things go

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 19

"Millbrook, Dutchess County?" exclaims the llama. "Are you kidding me? No wonder those kids are on the train to or from New York all the time."

"I don't know what you are talking about, animal", I say.

"Not here. He is not here!"

Anthony is the unhappiest elf I have ever seen.

"When you came to Santa's workshop and had your good times with us elves K'eyush followed you after a while searching in the halls and tunnels under the vanishing ice of the North Pole. But he also followed and found you, Joe Darque, the man in black, the self-called Dark Eater. And when he met Santa Claus, my boss, in his dressing room, he overpowered and kidnapped him. We only found Santa's big black boots and the rest of some sticky tape Darque must have used to gag him."

"Santa is your boss?" the llama asks. "Wow, so you are a Christmas Elf? One of Santa's little helpers?"

"Really, animal?" I ask. "Stating the obvious as always, aren't you?"

"Bromford Dock"

They disembarked in '45
And no one spoke and no one smiled
There were too many spaces in the line

Gathered at the cenotaph
All agreed with hand on heart
To sheath the sacrificial knives

(Thats right)
But now
She stands upon Bromford dock
With her handkerchief
And her summer frock
Clings to her wet body in the rain

In quiet desperation knuckles
White upon the slippery reins
She bravely waves the boys goodbye again
Still the dark stain spreads between
Their shoulder blades
A mute reminder of the poppy fields and graves
When the fight was over
We spent what they had made
But in the bottom of our hearts
We felt the final cut

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 18

"Next stop, Highland, Illinois?" the llama asks. "Your porthole or somebody else really seems to like that state of the United ones of America. Where do you come from, Anthony, the elf? Are you an alien? Are you the reason for The UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois?"

"Don't be rude, animal", I say.

If I wasn't a bad writer I could describe this small town with its buildings and parks and the Silver Lake. But I am a bad writer and Highland has a motto and it is written on a banner at the City Hall on Broadway.

"Be mindful of the past.
Celebrate Today with an eye to the future."

It seems like I have to learn something about the past right now.

"You really do not remember what happened in that Christmas night when you were six years old and reached the North Pole, don't you, Bromford?"

Looks like Anthony wants to finish his story.

"The cold, the hospital, the pneumonia? My parents returning earlier from the mainland without cousin Tupilek, the only person who ever became a lawyer after leaving our home village near the Polar Circle? No, thank goodness, I do not remember much of it."

"Later", Anthony says, "maybe that happened later. Or it is happening now. Time is confusing and confused these days. And time is dangerous. I can see that you are not the six year old Nanuk I met at the North Pole all these decades ago. And yet all this is happening right now. Or is it happening again?"

"Wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey…", the llama says. "Now you are making me dizzy."

"Bromford, remember", Anthony's green eyes are glowing in all colours of the rainbow while looking in my face. "The lights in the night, some call it Aurora Borealis, but that is not exactly right. At the North Pole, the home of Santa Claus or Father Christmas as some call him, these are also the lights that call all of his little helpers to work around Christmas time. You were there on Christmas Eve, Bromford, back in the days when you were Nanuk, the little Inuit boy. You saw the lights. And you found the open black trapdoor to Santa's subterranean workshop where all the toys and presents for Christmas are made."

"Are you trying to hypnotize me?" I ask.

"No", Anthony says. "I try to help you remember. K'eyush got all black after the Dark Eater's attack and ran away. You met me, Anthony, the elf, being on duty changing all the broken lightbulbs in the tunnels of the workshop and on the many, many Christmas trees. You met Eleven, the elf, we called Eleven because in Klingon Elf is the name of the number eleven."

"You are dizzying me again", the llama complains.

"You met more elves, my colleagues, my friends. We took you on a tour through the workshop. You saw the great factory, the invention laboratories, the sleighs garage and the reindeer stables. But when we wanted to introduce you to Mr. Santa Claus himself, we couldn't find him. He was gone."

'But I never finished that story', I think. 'I never wrote down or told anyone what happened to Nanuk after he discovered the North Pole. I never dreamt that part of the story.'

"Yes", Anthony says all dizzying and mind-reading again, "and that is what's making all of this so extraordinary confusing."

BING!

"Time to go."

"Bromford"

The boys and girls of Bromford
Are on the train from New York
Wearing new hats, shooting the shit
Deep in the heart of Dutchess County, bounty

And all the evening breakdowns
Will soon be washed from their hands
The next very day, as they make way
Eating the apple to the chapel, holy

Don't even try
They'll get away with murder
Sure as the rain washes away
And brings thunder

Oh, tell me can you see
The gentle tower rising?
Over the pines, out of a book
Zion mistaken for the state of Bromford

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 17

"Ha, ha", the llama laughs, "Margarita is a cocktail but also a city in Italy or Spain or South America or somewhere like that. But I didn't get the part with the moon. It all sounds Klingon to me. Or is it Greek?"

"Spanish, animal, it is Spanish", I say.

"He's not here", the elf says again with hanging head. "He is not here."

"Who are you searching for?" I see another opportunity to ask for more details. "The spirit of Christmas?"

"And the man who took it, Bromford Bibble", Anthony says. I didn't notice the little bell at the pointy end of his cap up to now and I never knew bells can make sad sounds. No jingle bells at this point of the story.

We are sitting down on a stone staircase to some old church or cathedral or something like that.

"OK, we have some time for some explanation, I think", Anthony says, "but keep on looking out for those sliding doors. We must not miss our next ride. We already missed too many opportunities to find them. We could have made a trip to Vienna in Austria in 1765, for example."

The llama is not amused.

"A time travel trip?" it asks with a puckered nose. "Nobody wants to go to Vienna in the past. Think about all those germs."

"Maybe nobody wants to go to present day Vienna, either", I say. "Go on, Anthony!"

"We could have searched in New York, twice, in Amsterdam, in Johnsburg, Illinois, Nashville, St. Charles, Baltimore, Tipperary. And yet, we started in Sherwood, which as the llama likes to say, might not even be a real city."

"Do I say so?" the llama asks.

BING!

"There is our lift."

"Concerning The UFO Sighting Near Bromford, Illinois"

When the revenant came down
We couldn't imagine what it was
In the spirit of three stars
The alien thing that took its form

Then to Lebanon, oh, God!
The flashing at night, the sirens grow and grow

History involved itself
Mysterious shade that took its form
Or what it was
Incarnation, three stars
Delivering signs and dusting from their eyes

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 16

"And do you think you've made the right decision this time?"

This is the skyline of London we are looking at from a static cabin of London Eye - the otherwise completely empty and deserted Ferris Wheel overlooking parts of the capital of Great Britain.

I have never been here before. And under other circumstances I could really enjoy the cities and places our broken elevator is taking us to. But it is all too random and the stays are too short. As I said, this traveling is making me dizzy.

"It is not an elevator", Anthony, the elf says. "It is a porthole."

"You are using that word again", I say. "But an elevator is not and never the round window of a ship."

"What do you mean?" Anthony asks. "As I said it is a pathway, a porthole, like the rabbit hole that brought Alice to Wonderland the first time or one of those Portkeys that the witches and wizards are using for traveling over longer distances."

"Welcome to the wizarding world of witchcraft", the llama says in a really sarcastic way.

"Says the walking and talking llama", Anthony counters snippy.

The general dizziness lets me forget my general fear of heights that should be triggered to the maximum on this static but still shaking in the wind Ferris Wheel cabin.

The llama says, "Did you know that the original Ferris Wheel was designed and constructed by George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. as a landmark for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago?"

"No", I say, "And I think I do not need to know that right now."

"OK", the llama says, "but do not say I didn't warn you. Chicago? Do you think that is a coincidence?"

"Right now it is more like an accident", I say turning back to Anthony, the elf. "So, why do you think we should know each other?"

Instead of an answer Anthony gives us this, "He's not here. He is not here. I can feel it. I can sense it. I can almost smell it. Be prepared, maybe for the moon or some kind of alcoholic beverage."

BING!

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 15

"Houston is filled with promise? What does that even mean?"

"This traveling from place to place is making me dizzy!"

"Are you sure, it's the traveling and not the strange story this self-called elf is trying to tell us?"

Anthony is trying to stop the animal.

"I can see now that you are not his spiritual animal, KussKuss", the elf says, "not even in another form. K'eyush was way more supporting and comforting to Nanuk."

"Hey", the llama says. "I lay my snout on his shoulder, comforting, didn't you see that?"

I am rubbing my closed eyes.

"I remember that night in the cold. It was the night I ran away and almost froze to death despite my seal-skin anorak. And there were rainbow lights in the middle of the night and K'eyush and Grandma White Feather to protect me, although my grandma was already dead at that point. My uncle found me and they brought me to a hospital. The rest of that time is one blurry mess. The man in black disappeared somehow and the village was save for some time to come."

Anthony's head is sinking sadly on his chest.

"You don't remember", he says, "You don't remember me, Nanuk."

"How can I remember an elf?" I ask myself. "We aren't living in a fairy tale. And elves are fantastic creatures, aren't they?"

"But you can accept a walking and talking llama?"

Get out of my head, animal!

BING!

I don't want to go.

"Bromford"

Smoke lingers 'round your fingers
Train, heave on to Euston
Do you think you've made the right decision this time?

You left your tired family grieving
And you think they're sad because you're leaving
But didn't you see the jealousy in the eyes
Of the ones who had to stay behind?

And do you think you've made the right decision this time?

You left your girlfriend on the platform
With this really ragged notion that you'll return
But she knows that when he goes, he really goes

And do you think you've made the right decision this time?

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 14

"Look, Bromford Bibble", Anthony is trying to grab my hand. "Just because things are happening in your head does not mean that they are not real. I know it might be ages ago but don't you remember your last winter at the Polar Circle?

You were six years old and about to be send to the mainland to go to school and maybe later to university. Your family knew you could never make it in your small village with the wooden cabins on the border to the permafrost regions."

I sit down on a bench right next to this peculiar little person who called itself an elf.

"As I said", I murmur, "it is a dream from ages ago. I hardly remember Greenland and my mother Aga, my father Amaguq, my Momon and Popon, or Grandpa Green Sleeve. Nor Grandma White Feather. My family was different at that time, at home. And so was I."

A white bird is sailing over our heads giving a quiet singing shriek. Something is touching my heart and chest in a bitter-sweet way making me have to swallow a great big lump down my throat.

"It's OK", the llama says laying its snout comforting on my shoulder while sitting close next to me on the other side of the bench.

"It is all coming back to you now, isn't it?" Anthony continues. "Do you remember the creepy slender man who came to your hometown to steal it from your folks?"

My mouth is dry. The words "The man in black" hardly find their way out over my lips.

"And do you remember how your parents left you with your aunt and uncle to go to the mainland to seek for legal ways to fight off that Dark Eater, as he called himself?"

It is all coming back to me now.

"And how you left your aunt's cabin in the middle of the night accompanied only by your new found spiritual animal, K'eyush, the at that time perfectly white polar bear cub?"

"My power animal", I nod.

"The man in black found you out there in the snow and together the two of you reached the shrouded in legend North Pole."

"Evil plans he had, that Dark Eater, not only stealing our land, our home for oil and ores and other natural resources", I say. "He was also looking for the perfect word for snow, like it was some kind of spell or something. He wanted to cover Earth in permanent darkness to feed from humanity's despair."

"And what is the perfect word for snow?" Anthony asks.

"Snow", I answer, "the perfect word for a thing is always its real name. And so the perfect word for snow is and always has been snow."

The three of us on that bench in Aberdeen near a cliff and the rough Scottish North Sea Coast are nodding with our whole bodies.

BING!

And here is that strange pressing and pushing traveling through jelly jello sensation again that brings us to another place.

"Bromford"

If the storm doesn't kill me the government will
I've got to get that out of my head
It's a new day today and the coffee is strong
I've finally got some rest

So a man's put to task and challenges
I was taught to hold my head high
Collect what is mine,
Make the best of what today has

Bromford is filled with promise
Laredo is a beautiful place
Galveston sings like that song that I loved
Its meaning has not been erased

And so there are claims forgiven
And so there are things that are gone

Bromford is filled with promise
Laredo is a beautiful place
Galveston sings like that song that I loved
Its meaning has not been erased

And some things, they fall to the wayside
Their memory is yet to be still
Belief has not filled me
And so I am put to the test

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 13

"Speaking of signs and movies", the llama says, "Look over there!"

With both forelegs and hooves the animal is pointing towards the hills on the horizon.

Nine big white letters are forming the word

HOLLYWOOD.

"Hollywood?" I ask. "So, we are in Los Angeles now?"

"Out in L.A., but it does not matter", Anthony says storing his oil lantern in a little backpack he is now hoisting on his back between his arms and shoulders. "He's not here. He is not here!"

"Look", I try to speak in a sensible voice, "I am not Nanuk. And I never was. It was a dream. Or an advent calendar story I wrote five years ago."

"And I", the llama interferes, "am most certainly not a black polar bear."

"Nor my spiritual animal", I add.

"I am not?" the animal asks. "I thought I was. That is very disappointing. Really, very disappointing."

"Watch out', Anthony, the elf, says, "Our pathway, our porthole is opening again. This time right beneath your feet."

BING!

And before I can even think about it, we are falling down and down and down…

"Rose Of Bromford"

I'm a rambler, I'm a gambler
I'm a long way from my home
If you people don't like me
I can make out on my own

'Cause it's dark
And it's rainin'
And the Moon gives no light
And my pony can hardly travel
On this darkened road at night

You know once I had a true love
Though her age was just sixteen
She was the flower of Belton
And the rose of Bromford

But her parents did not like me
And now she feels much the same
If I'm written in your Diary
Well blow out my name

'Cause there's changes in the ocean
And there's changes in the sea
And there's changes in my own true love
But there ain't no changin' me

Someone Stole The Spirit - Episode 12

"JUNO", the sign reads, "Inhabitants: 10."

"What do you call this?" Anthony asks. "A place name sign?"

"Not a real city", the animal remarks.

"Juno is a movie about a sixteen-year-old Minnesota high-schooler who discovers she is pregnant", I say.

"And a character in Beetlejuice", the llama adds.

"Not helpful", I say.

"Not helpful?" the llama asks.

"No!" I say on the edge. And turning to Anthony I ask, "What are you doing to us? And who are you? Some kind of shrunken Robin Hood with your green suit, red leggings and those pointed ears? If this was a drama series we had watched half of the episodes of the new season without having the slightest clue what is going on. Don't you know the fifteen-minutes-rule? If a movie or series does not catch you in its first fifteen minutes it will never catch you and you can as well stop watching at once."

"Sorry for not introducing myself properly", Anthony says reaching out his open hand in a polite gesture. "I am Anthony, the elf. I thought you'd remember me like I remember you. Now you are Bromford Bibble but some time ago you were Nanuk, the little Inuit boy who came to the North Pole with his spiritual animal K'eyush, the black polar bear."

"WHAAAT?"

"WHAAAT is not a good cliff-hanger, dude", the animal complains.

BING!
