Long Way To Earth... Part 26

'… and the wind cried Mary. The end.'

Bromford, the bard, and KussKuss, the llama, were holding their breaths. Besides the crackling of a small wood fire it was so quiet that you could almost hear the rocking of a cradle in the neighbourhood.

'That was a very wonderful story', the llama said and the staff flute whistled a tone of consent. 'It was the bestest story I ever heard you tell, old chap.'

They were lying on a bed of hay and straw and leaves in a cave on the other side of the High Mountains, a day's walk away from the city and High Castle of Bromford. And tired they were watching the dancing lights and shadows of the small wood fire on the ceiling.

'That was just the beginning of the Greatest Story Ever Told', said the bard. 'Collected and written down by various persons for various reasons and purposes in the Book of all Books.'

'Let it be a good book', the llama said, 'and may only good come from it in the future.'

And after they had rolled a large rock in front of the cave entrance and put out the little fire they both said at the same time,

'Good Night!'
