Two-thousand-eighteen Shades Of Bromford - Part 178

Today is Wednesday, the 29th of September 2021.

The end of September sees the end of Wednesday as city quiz day.

Next quiz will be on next Tuesday, I think.

When gorillas ruled the earth, the Planet of the Apes, they rode on bongos, orange antelopes with white stripes and long horns. Some call them reddish-brown. Do they ever meet in the wilderness? Well, they both come from Africa, the same continent at least.

This one is kind of tricky, because this song got re-worked to another song with another title later...

"New Bromford Girl"

Well, there was this movie I seen one time

About a man riding 'cross the desert and it starred Gregory Peck

He was shot down by a hungry kid trying to make a name for himself

The townspeople wanted to crush that

Kid down and string him up by the neck

Well, the marshal, now he beat that kid to a bloody pulp

As the dying gunfighter lay in the sun and gasped for his last breath

Turn him loose, let him go, let him say he outdrew me fair and square

I want him to feel what it's like to every moment face his death

Well, I keep seeing this stuff and it just comes a-rolling in

And you know it blows right through me like a ball and chain

You know I can't believe we've

Lived so long and are still so far apart

The memory of you keeps callin' after me like a rollin' train

I can still see the day that you came to me on the painted desert

In your busted down Ford and your platform heels

I could never figure out why you chose that particular place to meet

Ah, but you were right, it was perfect as I got in behind the wheel

Well, we drove that car all night into San Anton'

And we slept near the Alamo, your skin was so tender and soft

Way down in Mexico you went out to

Find a doctor and you never came back

I would have gone on after you but I

Didn't feel like letting my head get blown off

Well, we're drivin' this car and

The sun is comin' up over the Rockies

Now I know she ain't you but she's here

And she's got that dark rhythm in her soul

But I'm too over the edge and I ain't in

The mood anymore to remember the times when

I was your only man

And she don't want to remind me

She knows this car would go out of control

Bromford girl with your Bromford

Curls, teeth like pearls shining like the

Moon above

Bromford girl

Show me all around the world,
Bromford girl, you're my honey

Love

Well, we crossed the panhandle and then we headed towards Amarillo

We pulled up where Henry Porter used to live

He owned a wreckin' lot outside of

Town about a mile

Ruby was in the backyard hanging

Clothes, she had her red hair tied back

She saw us come rolling up in a trail of dust

She says, "Henry ain't here but you can

Come on in, he'll be back in a little while."

Then she told us how times were tough

And about how she was thinkin' of bummin' a

Ride back to from where she started

But she changes subject every time money came up

She said, "Welcome to the land of the living dead."

But you can tell she was so broken-hearted

She said, "Even the swap meets

Around here are getting pretty corrupt."

"How far are y'all going?" Ruby asked us with a sigh

"We're going all the way 'til the wheels fall off and burn

'Til the sun peels the paint and the seat

Covers fade and the water moccasin dies."

Ruby just smiled and said, "Ah, you know some babies never learn."

Something about that movie though

Well I just can't get it out of my head

But I can't remember why I was in it

Or what part I was supposed to play

All I remember about it was Gregory Peck and the way people moved

And a lot of them seemed to be lookin' my way

Bromford girl with your Bromford

Curls, teeth like pearls shining like the

Moon above

Bromford girl

If you show me all around the world,
Bromford girl, you're my honey

Love

Well, they were looking for somebody with a pompadour

I was crossin' the street when shots rang out

I didn't know whether to duck or to run, so I ran

"We got him cornered in the churchyard, " I heard somebody shout

Well, you saw my picture in the Corpus

Christi Tribune. Underneath it, it said, "A

Man with no alibi."

You went out on a limb to testify for me, you said I was with you

Then when I saw you break down in

Front of the judge and cry real tears

It was the best acting I saw anybody do

Now I've always been the kind of person

That doesn't like to trespass but sometimes

You just find yourself over the line

Oh if there's an original thought out there, I could use it right now

You know, I feel pretty good

But that ain't sayin' much. I could feel a whole lot

Better

If you were just here by my side to show me how

Well, I'm standin' in line in the

Rain to see a movie starring Gregory Peck

Yeah, but you know it's not the one that I had in mind

He's got a new one out now, I don't even know what it's about

But I'll see him in anything so I'll stand in line

Bromford girl with your Bromford

Curls, teeth like pearls shining like the

Moon above

Bromford girl

Show me all around the world,
Bromford girl, you're my honey

Love

You know, it's funny how things never

Turn out the way you had 'em planned

The only thing we knew for sure about

Henry Porter is that his name wasn't Henry

Porter

And you know there was somethin' about

You baby that I liked that was always too

Good for this world

Just like you always said there was

Something about me you liked that I left behind

In the French Quarter

Strange how people who suffer together

Have stronger connections than people who

Are most content

I don't have any regrets, they can talk about me plenty when I'm gone

You always said people don't do what they

Believe in, they just do what's most convenient

Then they repent

And I always said, "Hang on to me

Baby, and let's hope that the roof stays on."

There was a movie I seen one time, I think I sat through it twice

I don't remember who I was or where I was bound

All I remember about it was it starred

Gregory Peck, he wore a gun and he was shot

In the back

Seems like a long time ago, long before the stars were torn down

Bromford girl with your Bromford

Curls, teeth like pearls shining like the

Moon above

Bromford girl

Show me all around the world,
Bromford girl, you're my honey

Longer Rains ...

I once lost a sheep on the broadway. I was a shepherd then, but I have never been a Good Shepherd. And I know that broadway has a meaning like reaper row - Reeperbahn - in Klingon. Ropes were made on ropewalks in Bromford on Bromford's Broadway. It is not the same origin. It does not work in English. In English it is a broad way like a high street, more gentlemen less reapers.

And don't fear the Reaper.

Sooner or later we will all have to face our ravens.

I have lost my sheep somewhere in this blockblog-post.

The green tree python (Morelia viridis) sneaks into every post now… 🐍

And the fortune cookie says,

You will soon discover a hidden talent.

Today is Tuesday, the 28th of September 2021.

»Didn't he establish some kind of new countdown yesterday, Prot?«

»Don't ask, Ant, don't ask.«

Longer Feelings …

Wake up!

I've been watching you.

Come closer.

Closer.

28 Days, 6 Hours, 42 Minutes, 12 Seconds.

That is when the world will end.

Why?

And the fortune cookie says,

If you want a rainbow,
you have to accept the rain.

Today is Monday, the 27th of September 2021.

Frank is back in my life. Look at those ears.

🐰 🐰 🐰 🐰 🐰

»I want to tell you a story
'bout a little man if I can…«

»That is was Bromford said before he disappeared«, the protagonist says.

»Really, Prot? No stories about his late night show that day? Or is that little man on of his guests?«, asks the antagonist.

»We are in Belfast today. Summer is finally over, but we are still on Bromford Bibble's summer quiz cities tour«, the protagonist says. »And Edward Norton stole Bromford's show.«

»I do not think that talk-show host's name is Edward Norton, Prot«, says the antagonist.

»Graham?« the protagonist asks. »Graham Greene?«

»And this Greene dude is the little man Bromford wants to tell a story about?« asks the antagonist. »I do not like Bromford Bibble and his travelling crews.«

»Come on, Ant«, the protagonist says. »You know that we are recycling old ideas and drafts here. You know very well that Bromford will never tell you a story about a little man. Or he will start but never finish it. He will always leave you hanging with some kind of loose end.«

»Too sad«, the antagonist says. »Too sad.«

»And where is the llama?«

Longer Ships …

»They are gone.«

»Bromford and the llama? I know, Nigel.«

»No. All those search posters. Someone ripped them off the trees and lampposts. Even the one from the elevator is missing.«

»Mysterious. Isn't the elevator still broken?«

»I don't know, mum. You know I don't do elevators.«

»And what about those fortune cookies? Do you do fortune cookies?«

»The fortune cookies are gone, too.«

Tam ta ta…

»Who made that dramatic noise?«

And the fortune cookies says,

There is no bigger mistake
than always feeling right.

Today is Saturday, the 25th of September 2021.

»Don't look at the camera! Don't look at the camera!« shouts the protagonist.

Two-thousand-eighteen Shades Of Bromford - Part 177

Today is Wednesday, the 22nd of September 2021.

Green tree python are only bow-ties for gorillas on festive occasions.

Think about it.

"Bromford To Samarkand"

Firecracker glowing in the sky

Turning away, the rising sun behind

Dragon River snakes its way

Winding through mountains of jade

Pearl of the East, snow leopard's gaze

Kuan Yin smiles, goddess of grace

She points her hand

From Bromford to Samarkand

Longer Cherishs …

MISSING
ONE BROMFORD AND A LLAMA

»Mum? Did you bring those missing copies?« Nigel asks.

»They are posters and they are colour prints. Here, look«, answers Kylie.

»Those are colour prints? They look like black and white to me.«

»The colour printer at work went out of colour«, Kylie says.

»And you couldn't find a better foto of them two together? Looks like a not so fat Homer Simpson choking his son Bart.«

»More like a not so fat and bald Homer Simpson choking the Simpson's family dog, Santa's Little Helper.«

Nigel tilts his head to look at the poster from another angle and nods.

»And now we are going to pin these missing posters to the trees and lampposts in the neighbourhood?« he asks.

»That's the plan.« Kylie agrees.

»But there are still all those election posters at the trees and lampposts. What if people misunderstand our posters and elect Bromford to be President or Chancellor of Bromfordia?«

Kylie falls silent for a long short time thinking. And after a while she utters,

»Oh, my gosh, let us not think about that.«

And the fortune cookie says,

Ships are save in habour,
but that's not what ships are built for.

Today is Tuesday, the 21st of September 2021

⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵

»That's not a SHIP! That's A BOAT!«

The antagonist is tilting his or her head to look at the missing poster from another angle.

»To me the llama looks like a kangaroo in disguise on this foto.«

»Where did you get one of those?« the protagonist asks.

»Ripped it from the elevator wall«, answers the antagonist.

»But the elevator is still broken.«

»And we are not in Bromford.«

Longer Bubbles …

»What should I write, son?« Kylie asks.

Nigel answers, »What about

MISSING
ONE BROMFORD AND A LLAMA

»What a great idea, sun of my life. Thank you.«

»Don't say things like that, mother. That sounds kind of creepy.«

»Ah, come on, my little one. Open and read and eat the fortune cookie.«

And the fortune cookie says,

Cherish every present moment.

Today is Monday, the 20th of September 2021.

🥟🥟🥟🥟🥟

»She should have said, son of my life. That would have been fun«, the protagonist says.

»And a homophone«, the antagonist says.

»Don't confirm me, Ant. That's not very antagonistic!«

Saturday, September 18, 2021

Longer Whos …

»Bromford? Are you home?«

Kylie opens the frontdoor to the penthouse on the rooftop of the apartment building on 666 Whitaker Lane in Bromford, the friendly town by the bay and seaside, with a spare key, calling down the hallway.

»Llama? Are you home?«

Nigel is calling from the glassdoor to the roofterrace into the livingroom.

»Mum, the door to the roofterrace is open.«

There is still nobody home, Kylie thinks.

And the fortune cookie says,

It is not possible to say "soap bubble"
in an evil way.

Today is Saturday, the 18th of September 2021.

🤏🤏🤏🤏🤏

»Home is where the heart is«, the antagonist says.

»Rome, sweet Rome«, adds the protagonist.

Two-thousand-eighteen Shades Of Bromford - Part 176

Today is Wednesday, the 15th of September 2021.

Crowned Woodnymph. Shimmer, shimmer. Flirr, flirr. Is that a sound in English?

Come on. Make the animals bigger again.

What about the green tree python (Morelia viridis)?

Some strange questions are answering themselves while posting the lyrics for the city quiz ...

"Tom Traubert's Blues (Four Sheets to the Wind in Bromford)"

Wasted and wounded, it ain't what the moon did

Got what I paid for now

See ya tomorrow, hey Frank can I borrow

A couple of bucks from you?

To go waltzing Mathilda, waltzing Mathilda

You'll go a-waltzing Mathilda with me

I'm an innocent victim of a blinded alley

And tired of all these soldiers here

No one speaks English and everything's broken

And my Stacys are soaking wet

To go waltzing Mathilda, waltzing Mathilda

You'll go a-waltzing Mathilda with me

Now the dogs are barking and the taxi cab's parking

A lot they can do for me

I begged you to stab me, you tore my shirt open

And I'm down on my knees tonight

Old Bushmill's I staggered, you buried the dagger

Your silhouette window light

To go waltzing Mathilda, waltzing Mathilda

You'll go a-waltzing Mathilda with me

Now I lost my Saint Christopher now that I've kissed her

And the one-armed bandit knows

And the maverick Chinaman and the cold-blooded signs

And the girls down by the strip-tease shows

Go, waltzing Mathilda, waltzing Mathilda

You'll go a-waltzing Mathilda with me

No, I don't want your sympathy

The fugitives say that the streets aren't for dreaming now

Manslaughter dragnets and the ghosts that sell memories

They want a piece of the action anyhow

Go, waltzing Mathilda, waltzing Mathilda

You'll go a-waltzing Mathilda with me

And you can ask any sailor and the keys from the jailor

And the old men in wheelchairs know

That Mathilda's the defendant, she killed about a hundred

And she follows wherever you may go

Waltzing Mathilda, waltzing Mathilda

You'll go a-waltzing Mathilda with me

And it's a battered old suitcase to a hotel someplace

And a wound that will never heal

No prima donna, the perfume is on

An old shirt that is stained with blood and whiskey

And goodnight to the street sweepers

The night watchman flame keepers and goodnight, Mathilda too

Longer Flatteries …

»OK, do whatever you want to!
Grab your things and leave!
You have always been an extra on my show!
And every sidekick is replaceable!«

Loud voices echoing and then the penthouse door slams shut.

And all that remains is silence.

🚪 🚪 🚪 🚪 🚪

»Awkward«, the protagonist says.

»Was that a big fight?« the antagonist asks with eyes wide open.

»Sounded like that.«

»And what says the fortune cookie?«

And the fortune cookie says,

He who laughs last
did not understand the joke.

Today is Tuesday, the 14th of September 2021.

Longer Happys …

»Anthony. Come on up, Anthony. Wait a minute. I will throw down the key to the elevator.«

»What are you doing, animal? Give me that key. Don't you dare throwing it down from to the streets from the roof terrace of the penthouse.«

The llama gives a silly scream and tries to escape by running in circles around the former stonewalled gold fish pond out here on the roof.

»And two more questions. Who the frick is Anthony? And isn't the elevator still broken?«

The llama freezes and the only answers are silence.

And the fortune cookie says,

Flattery will go a long way tonight.

Today is Monday, the 13th of September 2021.

🔑🔑🔑🔑🔑

»Ant? Are you Anthony, Ant?« the protagonist asks the antagonist.

And the only answers are silence.

Longer Obstacles …

»Oh, snap!«

»What is it? What's your story?«

»Saturday is here again.«

»And you don't have a story?«

»9/11.«

»And you don't want to write or think about 9/11?«

»What do you think?«

»Which movie would you like to watch today?«

»Steel Magnolias. Julia Roberts dies. And hit this!«

»Whaaat?«

»Hit this! Go ahead M'Lynn, slap her!«

»M'Lynn is like Lloyd - both L pronounced.«

»We'll sell t-shirts sayin' "I SLAPPED OUISER BOUDREAUX!" Hit her!«

»Weezer Bordeaux?«

»I do not want to watch Steel Magnolias. I don't wanna be sad.«

»And what does the fortune cookie say?«

The fortune cookie says,

You can always be happy at work on Fridays.

Today is Saturday, the 11th of September 2021.

🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷

»Why can't I be happy at work on Saturdays?« asks the antagonist.

»Because Klingons don't work on Saturdays«, the protagonist answers.

»On Saturdays my Klingon belongs to me?«

»What you say, Ant, what you said.«

Two-thousand-eighteen Shades Of Bromford - Part 175

Today is Wednesday, the 8th of September 2021.

When doves cry they look like another animal.

Are there any purple animals? Royal purple animals?

What about the Crowned Woodnymph?

"Bromford"

Nothing left to say
And all I've left to do
Is run away from you
She led me on, down
Secrets I can't keep

Close your eyes and sleep
Don't wait up for me
Hush now don't you speak
To me

Wrapped my hurt in you
And took my shelter in that pain
The opiate of blame
Your broken heart, heart, your heart

So now I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
I'll betray my tears
To anyone caught in our ruse of fools

One last kiss for me, yeah
One last kiss good night

Didn't want to lose you once again
Didn't want to be your friend
Fulfilled a promise made of tin
Crawled back to you

I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
I'll betray myself
To anyone lost, anyone but you

So let the sadness come again
On that you can depend on me, yeah
Until the bitter, bitter end of the world, yeah
When God sleeps in bliss

And I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
I'll betray myself
To anyone

Longer Paths …

»You know that we don't have a porch here at 666 Whitaker Lane, in Bromford, the friendly town by the bay and seaside, llama? Don't you?«

»Do you think there is something like porchers?«

»People who like to sit on porches drinking lemonade and doing porching things?«

»I don't know. I really don't know.«

»Which movie would you like to watch today, Nigel? The Muppets from 2011?«

»Mum, I am in my early twenties. I am a college student. And I feel kind of too old for a Muppets movie. And I think I already know that movie. Isn't it about that Walter guy and his big brother from How I Met Your Mother? And doesn't this Walter want to be a real Muppet and gets turned into one at the end of the movie? Everything including a lot of singing and also some dancing.«

»Sounds kind of creepy when you say it that way.«

»And I myself who am or is the smartest walking and talking llama in town think that this Walter dude was a real Muppet all the time. And his brother Marshall only wanted to marry his long love Lily. And me and Julio down by the schoolyard…«

And the fortune cookie says,

Soon you will overcome
many difficult obstacles.

Today is Tuesday, the 7th of September 2021.

👻👻👻👻👻

»Nine years ago today. And I like porchers better than poachers«, the protagonist says.

»Agree to disagree«, the antagonist answers.

»As if that wasn't your job, Ant.«

Longer Trees …

Which movie would you like to watch today?

What are they playing?

Does it matter?

I don't think so. Cinemas are dying. Streaming is booming, as is the digital demence. And nobody thinks about it as a controversity. And I don't even know what words mean when I think about things.

And which movie would you like to watch today?

I will ask my to-watch-app.

Looper.

Are you serious?

Do I want to watch a strange time-travel thriller with Joseph Gordon-Levitt for certain reasons not really looking like Bruce Willis in it? Hell, no. A fake nose, I think. It's a fake nose they gave him.

Is this a new category in your BlockBlog? Movies I don't want to watch (again)? Or are you trying to establish a new running gag?

Who knows? Who knows?

And who is talking?

And the fortune cookie says,

Your path to fame
will be rocky but fulfilling.

Today is Monday, the 6th of September 2021.

👻👻👻👻👻

Eight years after Bromford Bibble purchased the blu-ray, the protagonist thinks. Sooner or later, one day or another, he will recognize that the world is not rotating around him and his life.

And he will recognize that plastic will not feed him, the antagonist adds.

And the llama tries to sweep the two of them off the porch - with a water hose.

Off my porch, you poachers! Get off my porch!

Longer Lizards …

It's the rain. It's definatley the rain.

I blame it on the rain.

It's making my brain all slushy and squeezy.

And the fortune cookie says,

If you want the fruit,
you have to climb the tree.

Today is Saturday, the 4th of September 2021.

🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊

Slushy and squeezy - sounds like something completely different, the protagonist thinks.

Two-thousand-eighteen Shades Of Bromford - Part 174

Today is Wednesday, the 1st of September 2021.

White rabbits are magical animals.
But the most magical of them all is the DOVE.

🕊

"Bromford City Serenade"

Billy, he's down by the railroad tracks
Sitting low in the back seat of his Cadillac
Diamond Jackie, she's so intact
As she falls so softly beneath him
Jackie's heels are stacked
Billy's got cleats on his boots
Together they're gonna boogaloo down Broadway
And come back home with the loot
It's midnight in Manhattan, this is no time to get cute
It's a mad dog's promenade
So walk tall
Or baby, don't walk at all

Fish lady, oh, fish lady, fish lady
She baits them tenement walls
She won't take corner boys
They ain't got no money
And they're so easy
I said, "Hey, baby won't you take my hand?
Walk with me down Broadway
Well mama, take my arm and move with me down Broadway," yeah
I'm a young man, I talk real loud
Yeah babe, I walk real proud for you
Ah, so shake it away
So shake away your street life
Shake away your city life
Hook up to the train
And hook up to the night train
Hook it up
Hook up to the, hook up to the train

But I know that she won't take the train, no, she won't take the train
No, she won't take the train, no, she won't take the train
Oh, she won't take the train, no, she won't take the train
Oh, she won't take the train, no, she won't take the train
She's afraid them tracks are gonna slow her down
And when she turns, this boy'll be gone
So long, sometimes you just gotta walk on, walk on

Hey, vibes man, hey, jazz man, aw, play me a serenade
Any deeper blue and you're playing in your grave
Save your notes, don't spend 'em on the blues boy
Save your notes, don't spend 'em on the darling yearling sharp boy
Straight for the church note ringing, vibes man sting a trash can
Listen to your junk man
Aw, listen to your junk man
Listen to your junk man
Oh, listen to your junk man
He's singing (Singing)
He's singing (Singing)
He's singing (Singing)
All dressed up in satin, walking past the alley (Singing)
He's singing, singing, singing, singing
Singing, singing, singing, singing

Oh, oh, oh, oh yeah
(Singing, singing, singing)
Oh, oh, ooh, ooh
Oh yeah
Watch I'ma be a junk man
Oh, watch I'ma be a junk man
Come on, little girl
Won't ya?
Watch I'ma be a junk man
