»What is that slot underneath the E-xecute button?« the archaeologist repeats his question.

»That's the keyhole, you mormon«, the llama replies.

»I think you wanted to call him a moron not a Mormon, KussKuss«, Kylie remarks. »And please stop insulting Professort Sideburns.«

»The penthouse«, I begin to explain, »is the only storey of the apartment-house on 666, Whitaker Lane, you can reach directly with the elevator.«

»Besides the stairs«, Nigel adds.

»Thank you, Nigel«, I say kind of distracted. »Yes, you can reach every storey and every apartment by stairs as well as by elevator. But the penthouse is the only apartment the elevator doors open directly inside.«

»The other apartments and storeys have corridors you can reach with the elevator and by stairs. But these apartments also have separate entrance doors«, Kylie says.

»Thank you, Kylie«, I say. »Storey One to Fifteen you can reach by entering the number on the elevator panel. To reach the penthouse on the roof of the building you have to enter a key in the slot and turn it around. You really do not want to have every visitor standing directly in the hallway of your penthouse, you know.«

»Oh«, the animal is trying to mock me, »the fine Lord Bibble has got his own penthouse with his own elevator entrance and his own special golden key to the kingdom.«

Oh, shut up, I say in my head.

»That is kind of what I expected«, the professor says thoughtfully.

We are both kneeling infront of the elevator panel exchanging glances now.

»Do you think what I think?« I ask.

»You will have to press the two new button…«, Professor Sideburns begins.

»… and turn the elevator key«, I finish the sentence.

»But isn't the elevator still broken?« Nigel asks.

»Where is the key, animal?« I ask ignoring Nigel.

»What am I, dude?« The llama seams to be upset. »I am your roommate not your keykeeper, human!«

»Just thought you had it in your pouch somehow«, I say.

»What am I, dude?« the animal replies not less upset. »I am a llama not a kangaroo. I do not have an attached pouch and I am not carrying one aroung all the times.«

»Where is the key?« I repeat my question. »Everybody spread out and search!«

The only one remaining inside the elevator cabin is Nigel.

»But isn't the elevator still broken, is it?« he is repeating and whispering his question.

"Bromford Underground"

Descended from a world of darkened places
Descended from a world that's lost control
Suspended between time and fractured places
I'm waiting for the fall here on my own.

Please take me down where the rain drops
Please take me down, down below
Please hold me here where the dreams stop
Please leave me here on my own

It was fate that took me down into the place
I want to cross the borders of control
Take me to the shrine that's in your basement
And hold me in that place I'll lose it all

So please take me down where the rain drops
Please take me down so far below
Come take me down to where my dream stops
I don't know where else I can go

So please take me down to where the rain drops
Please lay me down, down below
Please leave me here where the dream stops
Cause I don't know where else I can go

"Bromford"

See the sun rise over her skin
Don't change it
See the sun rise over her skin
Dawn changes everything
Everything
And the delta sun
Burns bright and violet

Mississippi and the cotton wool heat
Sixty-six a highway speaks
Of deserts dry
Of cool green valleys
Gold and silver veins
Of the shining cities

In this Bromford
In this Bromford soil
In this Bromford
Heaven knows this is a Bromford
Bromford... Bromford

See the sun rise over her skin
She feels like water in my hand
Freeway like a river cuts through this land
Into the side of love
Like a burning spear
And the poison rain
Brings a flood of fear
Through the ghost-ranch hills
Death valley waters
In the towers of steel
Belief goes on and on

In this Bromford
In this Bromford soil
In this Bromford
Heaven knows this is a Bromford
Bromford... heaven knows this is a Bromford
Bromford... Bromford
Bromford... heaven's day here in the Bromford
Heart...

Two-thousand-eighteen Shades Of Bromford - Part 224

Today is Tuesday, the 11th of October 2022.

Eleven deaf apes cannot see threee blind apes.
Or are they monkeys? Mankeys? Keys to mankind.
Look into the eye of a chimpanzee and see your past...
And your possible future...

Returned from the Return of the Return to the Planet of the Apes...

"Bromford (Afrika)"

Well all right, take me back, hold my hand
All the way back to the brotherland
Take me back, I want to go back, oh
Take me back with my funky ass band
All the way back to the brotherland
Take me back, let's go

I want to go as fast as I can
Slidin' on back to the brotherland
Now children, take me on back
Take me on back, take me on back
Take me on back (East L.A.)
Bromford

I want to get up and go with my funky ass jams
All the way back to the brotherland
Take me back, take me back
I want to go back

Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord
Lord, Lord, Lord
Bromford
Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord
Lord, Lord, Lord
[Instrumental Solo]

Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord
Lord, Lord, Lord
Take me on back, take me on back
Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord
Lord, Lord, Lord
Take me on back, take me on back
Where the woman is the woman
And the man is the man

I want to go fast as I can
Slidin' on back to the brotherland

O aks …

»Push! Push! Push!« Llama and Nigel are shouting in chorus.

»Hey, I am not pregnant and I am not giving birth here«, I snap back.

»I see you've all never been with a woman giving birth.« Kylie is shaking her head.

»Push the buttons! Push the buttons!« Llama and Nigel are now whispering in unison.

»Well«, I take in a deep breath. »Bodies and feet away from that door. Let's do it.«

I close my eyes.

»How dramatic«, I can hear the llama's comment whispered in my ears.

I press the new discovered elevator buttons and…

Nothing happens.

»Oh, bummer, bummer«, the llama almost spits out.

»Again?« Kylie asks. »Looks like this elevator is bringing us nowhere.«

Professor Sideburns takes another step closer to the elevator panel and another closer look.

»May I ask a question?« he asks.

»Damage already done, Claude Burnside«, the llama remarks coldly.

»You know, you can still ignore the animal, don't you, Professor?« I sigh.

»I just wondered, what is that slot underneath the E-xecute button?« the archaeologist asks his second question within only a few moments.

All five of us holding breathes again. Tension is rising.

Two-thousand-eighteen Shades Of Bromford - Part 223

Today is Monday, the 3rd of October 2022.

There used to be a kind of tradition with one animal meeting the previous one.
When did I skip this tradition? Maybe when all these cats showed up?
I think cats should be replaced by dragons. Dragons burning and feasting on goats.

Or... on blind apes?

"Bromford Hillbilly"

Well I said goodbye to Rosie Rooke this morning,
I'm gonna miss her bloodshot alcoholic eyes,
She wore her Sunday hat so she'd impress me,
I'm gonna carry her memory 'til the day I die.

They'll move me up to Bromford Hill tomorrow,
Photographs and souvenirs are all I've got,
They're gonna try and make me change my way of living,
But they'll never make me something that I'm not.

Cos I'm a Bromford Hillbilly boy,
But my heart lies in old West Virginia,
Never seen New Orleans, Oklahoma, Tennessee,
Still I dream of the Black Hills that I ain't never seen.

They're putting us in identical little boxes,
No character just uniformity,
They're trying to build a computerised community,
But they'll never make a zombie out of me.

They'll try and make me study elocution,
Because they say my accent isn't right,
They can clear the slums as part of their solution,
But they're never gonna kill my cockney pride.

Cos I'm a Bromford Hillbilly boy,
But my heart lies in Old West Virginia,
Though my hills, they're not green,
I've seen them in my dreams,
Take me back to those Black Hills,
That I ain't never seen.

Well I'm a Bromford Hillbilly boy,
But my heart lies in Old West Virginia,
Though my hills, they're not green,
I've seen them in my dreams,
Take me back to those Black Hills,
That I ain't never seen.

W ackys ...

»Nothing happened. What a surprise!«

The llama's mouth is looking like the squeezed one of an unsatisfied frog. Kermit the frog, maybe.

»There are not even blue lights for those arrows. But Mister Bibble must press the elevator walls«, the llama continues.

»If I may add one or two thoughts«, Professor Sideburns says.

I nod in his direction to signal him to go on and ignore the llama's annoyed sounds.

»The hidden message said, Open here, not Press here.«

»Interesting«, Nigel says stroking his non-existing beard.

But what could I possibly open here? I am knocking against the elevator's metallic wall, right next to the buttons on the panel.

»Sounds kind of hollow there«, Kylie says.

»Hollow, smollow«, the llama adds.

There must be a trick, a twist of some kind.

»Would you hold the treasure map for me?« I ask the Professor. »Right here where it is covering the buttons on the panel.«

Now with both hands free I am touching the places the arrows on the map are marking.

»Feels like two hidden flap openings«, I say.

»Very specific, dude«, the llama comments.

Using my fingernails I am opening the flaps upwards… to find… two hidden blue lightened buttons.

»Hallelujah!« the llama remarks.
